Not long after the highly (and surprisingly) successful remake of Hairspray, MTV has decided to remake another musical — one that some might call one of the most popular cult classics of all time — The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Interestingly enough, for the remake, the original script will be used (shot-for-shot deal?), which was written by Richard O’Brien and Jim Sharman, who also directed the original film.
Also, Lou Adler, who was an executive producer on the original movie, will be returning for this one as well. No director or cast as of yet.
The remake may also include music not featured in the original.
To some, this may be the greatest news ever dropped from the heavens (who the hell are these people?). To most, it may be birthed from the bowels of hell.
Either way, here it comes.
The original 1975 film, which went on to be the most popular midnight movie of all time, starred Tim Curry in the lead role as the sweet transvestite Frank-N-Furter. Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and Meatloaf also starred, along with O’Brien, who played Riff Raff.
I AM APPALLED as a huge fan who has seen and screamed for the lips to appear on the screen over 200 times this sickens me. You can in no way ,come close to casting this as the original cast was absolutely phenominal. Have these folks burned so many brain cells that they can’t even have an original thought any more. I agree with Jay and FANS,TRANSVESTITES,ALIENS,BIKERS,WHEELCHAIR BOUD MEN,ETC,ETC… need to revolt against those MTV no brainers
enough with the remakes allready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This really gets me down, as I KNOW it will be a steaming pile of… well you know, yet I will watch it anyway, and that HURTS ME DEEP DOWN! :-(
I have seen it live a few times (with different casts) and while it is a delight every time, there is NOTHING like seeing the original.

here’s a stinkin’ idea – why not just RE-RELEASE THE ORIGINAL FILM!!!!! i’d much rather see the original in the theater again than see some retarded MTV production.

Yeah, I heard this and I’m not even what you could particularly call a big fan of Rocky Horror, but I’M offended by this. Seriously, worst idea ever.

The stage version of Rocky Horror has had thousands of casts over its 30+ year run.
Were you guys offended by those too?
