After years of trying to get a Three Stooges movie made at Warner Bros., Peter and Bobby Farrelly have now moved over to MGM where the project is now moving forward again.
If you recall a while back, people like Russell Crowe were spoken of to star in the movie but it never came to be.
Most people (including myself) think it to be an incredibly bad idea to even bother with a Three Stooges movie. I don’t see how it could possibly be anywhere near what they were and it just seems so pointless. I guess if it was a movie about the Stooges and was funny, but dramatic as well — maybe in the vein of Man on the Moon or Hollywoodland — then I could say it might be worth doing. But this doesn’t seem to be going that route. This seems to be a Farrelly Brother’s Three Stooges comedy, which is slightly horrifying to think about, whether you love the Farrellys or loathe them.
The movie is looking to really go at this one and release it in about one year on November 20, 2009 right along Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes.

i think part of what made those old movies so great (along with Abbott & Costello) was the fact that they were made with vintage equipment, to capture that aesthetic / theatric quality will be quite a task.. unless they just plan on levelling it up to 2K standards, which in that case would lead to the question, why even re-do it? focus those resources on something new..
It could work, but I think its better left alone, unless its a bio of some sort.. a la Robert Downey’s Chaplin..
PS – i recently saw a pretty cool retro flic – Leatherheads, set in the 20s.. a good rent.
