A while back, it was reported that Gossip Girl writer Josh Schwartz would be writing a Young X-Men movie for Fox being called X-Men: First Class.
It’s also now being reported that Schwartz — who I repeat, is a writer on Gossip Girl — turned down the offer to direct the movie.
Now, I don’t know this guy and he may be some untapped genius director/writer, but it was scary enough thinking that the dude who writes Gossip Girl was writing an X-Men movie… so am I the only one really scared that they actually tried to get him to direct!?
What happens now? From Brett Ratner to the guy who writes Gossip Girl to _______? Are they intentionally moving down the ladder or do they know something that we do not know?
If you haven’t realized yet, I’m totally going for the record of times Gossip Girl is mentioned in a story.
I have to admit — not that I was buzzing for a Young X-Men to begin with — I’m just a little worried here. You know, for the sake of the name and all.
I guess at this point any one of us has a fighter’s chance at scoring the job!

i remember skipping all the young x-men issues while reading one of the last x-men story lines.
i’m sure it’ll be the same for the movie whoever winds up directing it.

“Are they intentionally moving down the ladder…”
I guess it’s just like what Kevin Smith said – In Hollywood, people tend to fail UPWARDS.

On the other hand, he’s writing about teenagers, which is exactly what he’s doing now. Directing might be a bit different — not only is it a completely different genre, but it’s a different screen, but the writing isn’t surprising at all, really.

You keep repeating “Gossip Girl” over and over … but he’s also the creator of the TV show “Chuck”. Which may or may not be to your taste, but it’s a solid action show, with no teens. So at this point, he’s established at least some range. And as Cass said, he’s going to be writing about teenagers. The whole teen mutant thing is really just a metaphor for the changes brought on by puberty, so this guy is probably well-equipped to handle that. At least he’ll probably make a better effort to treat the characters as characters and not as action figures, the way Brett Ratner did.

Uwe Boll should direct it.

Ok, Josh Schwartz = Seth Cohen
He has geek cred.
(Also, Gossip Girl is sort of not that bad.)
