‘Where The Wild Things Are’ Trailer Debuts!

WTWTA

At last word, the trailer for Spike Jonze‘s Where the Wild Things Are was to show up in front of Monsters vs. Aliens, which is opening this Friday. Well, waiting is over-rated! The trailer debuted this morning on Ellen, and you can finally see it here.

As we hoped and dreamed, it really does look amazing. The Wild Things look exactly like the Wild Things that we saw as pictures in Maurice Sendak‘s children’s novel, only now, instead of flat on our page, they’re 100% completely alive and real. You get various glimpses at moments of anger, fear, happiness, and playfulness — all those great emotions that shine so brightly when you’re a child.

One thing I’m not so big on is the song that they used in the trailer. While the song its self may be good, it just didn’t work for me here with this trailer. I think I always just looked at all of the images and the test footage and imagined the trailer would have some kind of haunting and magical score behind it.

Nonetheless, the trailer is fantastic and must be watched immediately.

  1. On the subject of a more “haunting and magical” score: Personally, I kinda like the indy rock thing. Not that I like the song, but that it makes it feel more like a Wes Anderson (Not Paul Anderson) movie and less like bargain basement Lord of the Rings. Because aping Jackson worked so well for Narnia, Inkheart, and His Dark Materials.

  2. The song, Wake Up which is one of The Arcade Fire’s best in my opinion, was used quite eloquently. I wouldn’t put it past Jonze that he probably edited this trailer himself. He’s best known for his music videos, and this one was killer. If you listen to the lyrics, it fits the story perfectly. Here’s the full song in a live setting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEKC5pyOKFU

  4. I thought the music in the trailer was perfect. It fit the overall feel of the trailer and really added some weight to it. My expectations for this flick are high… probably too high.

  5. Looks awesome. Im still shivering after seeing the trailer. The music wasnt as fail as it could have been, Yet they could have done better…. Everything else was where it should have been. I cant wait to see the movie.
