Tim Burton is a constantly busy man; between writing, producing, and directing, he always has something on the table to work on. So what would the visual master take on next? According to recent reports from Deadline Hollywood, it could be a new stop-motion movie based on Charles Addams‘ The Addams Family, which originated as regular cartoons in The New Yorker from the ’30s straight on through to the ’80s when Addams passed away.
Most of us are only familiar with The Addams Family from the ’60s television series and the Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, and Christopher Lloyd movie remakes we saw in the ’90s. Burton supposedly wants to ignore all of those and go right to Addams’ cartoons from the New Yorker and make a much more sharp and witty movie. The project will bring Burton back to the world of stop-motion animation, which he was involved in as a writer/producer on The Nightmare Before Christmas, producer on James and the Giant Peach, and as writer/producer/director on Corpse Bride.
Other projects that Burton has lined up include a movie remake of Dark Shadows with his constant Johnny Depp, a possible Wonderland-esque live-action/motion-capture hybrid based of the Sleeping Beauty villain, Maleficent, a feature based on his own short film Frankenweenie, and producing a feature adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter with fellow 9 producer Timur Bekmambetov.
This is completely awesome! This could end up being a true Burton signature.

I know he’s ignoring the TV show and movies and going straight to the original source, but there are two things that I think are a must:
1) The Addams Family theme song from the TV show.
2) John Astin as Gomez Addams. He’s 79 going on 80 March 30th, but the guy’s still active and is the only voice of Gomez Addams in my book. I think he should definitely be considered.

MTV movie blog asked his people to confirm this and they said these rumors were false, that he didn’t have his next projects lined up. Then a producer at disney said the the script and stop-motion puppets are all ready for his Frankenweenie remake. So it looks like no Addams family and his next movie will be Frankenweenie, then probably Dark Shadows. I doubt he’ll make an Addams family movie or a Sleeping Beauty revamp.
