Beatles abbey road

Abbey Road Crossing, where the iconic photo of The Beatles was taken for their Abbey Road album, has been designated a heritage site.

The photo of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr walking single-file along the north London zebra crossing (as it’s known in the UK) was included on the album’s sleeve and is one of the most famous pictures of The Beatles. Abbey Road Crossing, which is outside the Abbey Road Studios where the 1969 album was recorded, is already a tourist attraction that thousands of people flock to each year to recreate the famous image.

Abbey Road Crossing’s new designation, which will preserve the area as a historic landmark, “is the first time that Britain has given so-called Grade II status to a site that is not a building,” according to Discovery News. Abbey Road Studios was also given Grade II status in February.
