We’ve been hearing a little about Snow White and the Huntsman, the upcoming Universal Pictures live-action adaptation of the classic tale currently looking at Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, and Kristen Stewart for roles. And much like the many Wizard of Oz projects on the way, there are also multiple Snow White movies on the way as well.
Relativity Media has their own take on the story set to be directed by Tarsem Singh, and now Disney, who of course made the 1937 animated classic, has found a writer to craft their own new version. It’s being reported that Michael Ardnt has entered into negotiations with the studio to pen what they’re calling Snow and the Seven…which is quite different than Disney’s animated film.
The story starts off in 19th century Hong Kong, where an Englishwoman has returned to for her father’s funeral. After finding out that her stepmother is up to bad deeds, the woman runs off to mainland China and settles in with a group of seven international warriors.
Arndt was just nominated for an Oscar for his work writing the screenplay for Pixar’s Toy Story 3, which also was nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Picture.
John Myhre has also been hired to handle production design work on Snow and the Seven. Myhre is currently working on Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides with director Rob Marshall, who he also worked with on Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha. If anything, this means we can expect some beautiful visuals from this one.
