In an interview with the Associated Press, actress Michelle Rodriguez, who’s out promoting her new film, Battle: Los Angeles, had some things to say about the sequel to the biggest movie ever made: Avatar 2.
In the interview, Rodriguez stated that the massive follow-up to 2009’s Avatar — which brought in almost $3 billion worldwide at the box office — would be heading underwater. She didn’t make it clear whether the entire film would be set in this environment or if would be a partial location, but she did make it clear that it is going to be “extraordinarily beautiful.”
The actress admits she’s not sure if director James Cameron will be offering her a role in the film yet, but she still hopes to at least visit and watch the blockbuster being made.
I have to think this would be amazing, personally. Everyone knows how well Cameron does water, and his previous works like The Abyss and Aliens of the Deep would lead us to believe that a movie on scale with Avatar set underwater would be stunning to see.
At the moment, it appears that Cameron is planning to direct Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 next, and that he will do so simultaneously in order to smartly save time and money. This is all still up in the air of course, but if all goes well we could see the first sequel by 2014 and the trilogy-capper in 2015.
What do you think about traveling underwater for Avatar 2?
Given the amount of CGI used in avatar, I can’t imagine Cameron wanting to actually film things underwater
