The first G.I. Joe movie, The Rise of Cobra, was pretty awful. A lot of people seemed to like it for some inexplicable reason, but a guilty pleasure is a guilty pleasure, and that one is getting a sequel.
Interestingly enough, it appears that pretty much everyone who was in Rise of Cobra, won’t be in G.I. Joe 2, which is titled G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The only returning stars will be Channing Tatum, who plays Duke, the fan–favorite, Snake Eyes (played by Ray Park), and Byung-hun Lee, who plays Storm Shadow.
But, if all goes to plan, a massive Hollywood star will be one of the newcomers cast to try and help it survive the loss of talents like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marlon Wayans, Sienna Miller, Dennis Quaid, and Rachel Nichols. It’s being reported that none other than Bruce Willis is in talks for a role, and it’s a fairly significant one at that.
If Willis does join the cast, he would be playing General Joe Colton, the man who first started the G.I. Joe team in the ’80s comic books.
Willis would join the returning cast, as well as fellow newcomers like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (The Rundown, Fast Five), who’s set to play Roadblock, Ray Stevenson (Rome, The Book of Eli), who’s playing Firefly, Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights, Red Dawn [2011]), who will play Lady Jaye, and RZA (American Gangster, Funny People), who’s playing Blind Master.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation is written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland, Deadpool), and will be directed by Jon M. Chu, who previously directed Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D, and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.

“…A massive Hollywood star will be one of the newcomers cast to try and

I just choked on my Coke when I read that. Marlon Wayans…TALENTED? Bwahahahahahahahahaha! He doesn’t belong in the same sentence as Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Good riddance to Ripcord. I never liked him in the first movie anyway.
However, it has been confirmed that Arnold Vosloo and Jonathan Pryce will return to reprise the role of Zartan and the President (also Zartan). In addition, rumors persist that Sienna Miller may come in to do a cameo as Ana/Baroness.
Say what you will, but I enjoyed the first movie and so did a lot of other people. Yeah, they missed the mark that would please the die-hard fans. But this sequel is shaping up to be better than the original. If they can score Bruce, then this franchise has lots of life left in it. A lot of the original fans are watching very closely…

“will be directed by Jon M. Chu, who previously directed Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D, and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.”
I was thinking about going back and actually watching the 1st movie so I could know what was “going on”, but then I read that sentence. Now I could not care less… How can someone that a winning lineup for a resume?

I don’t think it’s necessary to introduce Bruce Willis with “‘Die Hard’ star”. There’s only ONE Bruce Willis. With that said, if “Hudson Hawk” star, Bruce Willis does choose to be in G.I. Joe 2, along with The Rock… I might have to catch it, when it comes out on Netflix.
