The Doctor Who TARDISblend 39: The Girl Who Waited

Doctor Who

Series Six of Doctor Who continues, and Team TARDIS find themselves on the mysterious world of Apalapucia, with the Doctor (Matt Smith) promising grand tours of gardens and mountains. However, the Doctor and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) find themselves separated from Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) – and it’s discovered they’re not only separated by distance, but by time itself as Amy is trapped in a faster and separate time stream.

In an effort to rescue Pond, The Doctor uses the TARDIS to track down Amy’s specific time stream – only for Rory to find that although their arrival was successful, Amy has been waiting 36 years to be rescued. Bitter and aged, the old Amy Pond proves to be a cunning warrior, with incredible skills in temporal technology. The unusual situation will position Rory into making some difficult decisions, and into facing some impossible realities.

During TARDISblend 39, we review the events of The Girl Who Waited, becoming one of the best episodes of the current season – perhaps second only to Neil Gaiman‘s The Doctor’s Wife. Written by Tom MacRae, the adventure flips the situations for many of the characters, as we see further hints of the Doctor’s darker side.

We also look into some of the clues planted in this standalone episode by both MacRae and showrunner Steven Moffat, which may provide some insight into the direction of future episodes. Finally, we preview the next adventure, titled The God Complex, which can only be described as “What if Stephen King wrote Doctor Who?”

All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The Social Blend Podcast) and Tom Cheredar (Tched from The Drill Down Podcast) TARDISblend is a podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures in the Doctor Who Universe – as Matt Smith makes his journey as the Eleventh Doctor!

  1. I think the question of “right” is essential to looking at the episode.
I’m grateful that the episode didn’t make light of the consequences of
the decision, but I do believe the Doctor went too far, which could
potentially be fantastic for the narrative.

  2. First off, great podcast as always.  You reviewed some of the finer points or connections I may have missed.
Excellent freaking episode of the Doctor.  I laughed, I cried, this show pulls the viewer along on the emotional rollercoaster that the characters are on.My favorite and I think most telling line, was when Rory says something like you’re making be like you, when the Doctor tells Rory he must choose which Amy to save.  Are these two companions going to finally learn that life is not always cheery traveling with the Doctor.  The Doctor has a dark side.  Will Rory be the reason why they eventually stop traveling with the Doctor?

Take care boys and thanks for the entertainment :)
