The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the elaborate attraction based on the popular film franchise that has drawn more than 7 million people to Universal Studios Orlando, is about bring its Sunshine State to the West Coast. Universal is currently finalizing a deal with Harry Potter film distributor and licensing rights holder Warner Bros. to build a replica of the Wizarding World attraction at their theme park in Hollywood, CA.
The attraction was also primarily responsible for a 36% boost in attendance at the Universal Orlando during the first quarter of 2011. Building Wizarding World at Universal’s California theme park might require the studio to remove or retrofit existing rides in order to make room for the various Harry Potter rides and shops.
The L.A. Times is also reporting that the Walt Disney Company has signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to create attractions for their parks based on the studio’s 2009 record-breaking blockbuster Avatar, the first of which will begin construction in Orlando, FL in 2013.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is scheduled to open at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2015.
