Wanderlust

Nothing better to beat back the winter doldrums than a healthy dose of ribald comedy. Well maybe that and some psychotropic hallucinogens. Unfortunately we can’t provide you with the latter but we do have a really funny clip from the upcoming comedy Wanderlust and you can watch it here below.

Be forewarned though: this clip contains a lot of naughty talk that some of your more prudish co-workers might find O-fen-sive.

Wanderlust follows the adventures of a pair of married Manhattanites who decide to try living in a commune that encourages free love among its residents and isn’t the kind of movie we typically write about here at Geeks of Doom: it doesn’t contain time-traveling cyborgs, spaceships that become robot samurai warriors, and it has nothing to do with Doctor Who. But it’s not a movie that us comedy geeks can easily ignore.

It’s the first feature from director David Wain since 2008’s Role Models, which starred rising cinematic comedy god Paul Rudd, one of the stars of Wanderlust. Wain was one of the founding members of the early 1990s comedy troupe The State and directed most of the three seasons of the troupe’s MTV sketch show. When The State folded Wain went on to direct episodes of Stella, Party Down, and the Adult Swim hit Childrens Hospital. In 2001 he made his feature directorial debut with the raunchy summer camp comedy Wet Hot American Summer, a future cult classic that brought together an all-star line-up of comedic talent.

While it’s too early to tell if Wanderlust is as insanely funny and sweet as Wain’s other films, there’s no denying the director’s ability to round up a cast stocked with comedy heavy hitters. Joining Rudd are Jennifer Aniston (who can be really funny and charming when given the chance), Justin Theroux (a serious actor but also the man who co-wrote Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder and was the best thing about last year’s staggeringly unfunny Your Highness), Alan Alda (I could do without him but he still has his fans), Malin Akerman (best known from movies like Watchmen but also a sharp comedic actress on Childrens Hospital), Kathryn Hahn (from Anchorman and Step Brothers), Jordan Peele (of Mad TV and the new Comedy Central sketch comedy series Key & Peele), and State alums Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, and Kerri Kenney-Silver. So as a huge comedy geek I can’t help but be excited for this movie.

Judging by this clip it looks like Wanderlust could be another winner. Long story short, Rudd and Akerman’s characters attempt an erotic rendezvous that would go a lot better if Rudd would just stop talking. I’m sure the outtakes from this scene will be on the DVD and they will be plentiful and varying in their hilarity, but I think they picked the best take. Enjoy.

Wanderlust opens on February 24, 2012.
