Reboot is an interesting sci-fi/mystery short film set in the world of hackers that was written and directed by Joe Kawasaki and stars Emily Somers, Travis Aaron Wade, Martin Copping, and Sonalii Castillo. The film will be previewing at Defcon, the largest gathering of hackers in the world, this July in Las Vegas. The production funds were raised through a Kickstarter page and it’s not too late for you to make a donation.
Producer Sidney Sherman has alerted us to a trailer for Reboot and sent along a plot synopsis for the film. You can view them both here below.
The makers of Reboot have also launched an alternate reality game where players can participate by finding hidden clues in the trailer and reporting them to the film’s Twitter feed so they can ascend to the next “level.” Prizes for the top scorers include a copy of the Reboot soundtrack, an autographed 11 x 17 poster, and an HD download of the film upon its release. You can find out more about the game here.
Reboot has an official website where you can read blogs and news updates about the film, get info about screenings, and more. The site is still relatively new, but we can expect more content to be added in the months to come.
I like the look of this film and would definitely be interested in seeing more. Plus the use of Massive Attack in the trailer really got my attention.
Set within a dystopian world that is a collision between technology and humanity, “Reboot” touches upon many of the current social and political concerns that arise from becoming more and more intertwined with the virtual. In contemporary Los Angeles, a young female hacker (Stat) awakens from unconsciousness to find an iPhone glued to her hand and a mysterious countdown ticking away on the display. Suffering from head trauma, and with little recollection of who she is or what is happening, Stat races against time to figure out what the code means, and what unknown event the pending zero-hour will bring.
