As expected, we’re in the middle of a rush of fairy tale-inspired movies. From Snow White and the lands of Oz, to Peter Pan and Jack and the Beanstalk, they’ve all got projects on the way. Most of them have multiple new takes on the stories coming from various studios.
Another fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty, also has new versions of the story on the the way, but producer Neal Moritz wants to take it in a completely different direction.
Moritz wants to take the Sleeping Beauty fable and turn it into a psycho stalker comedy. Why not!
In his version, a man would accidentally wake up the long-slumbering woman. But when he does she becomes infatuated with him, and no matter where he goes or what he does, she follows closely behind. Mike Gagerman and Andrew Waller are currently working on a first draft of the script.
The movie isn’t set up at a studio yet—it’s only in the early developmental stages—though Moritz, who’s previous producing credits include all of the Fast and Furious movies, I Am Legend, 21 Jump Street, and many more, and his Origianl Films company does have a deal with Universal Pictures.
The other big Sleeping Beauty project on the way is Maleficent, in which Angelina Jolie plays the feared villain.
