Rian Johnson‘s Looper opens this weekend. The film (read our review here), which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, puts a unique twist on time travel. Most theater chains hold a midnight screening for every major film, and Johnson thought it might be fun to introduce his film at a midnight screening held at the Arclight in Hollywood. The catch is that he never told anyone in the audience that he was coming, nor did he identify himself.
Check out the hilarious video here below.
For those who may not live in the Los Angeles area, the Arclight Theater is one of the premiere theaters in Southern California. Before the start of every film, an usher comes in to introduce what you are about to watch, ensures that he will stay until the presentation is perfect, and ask you to please turn off any electronic devices.
/Film found the video, which was on the official Looper Tumblr, of Johnson introducing Looper to the midnight audience, and it seems like it took a while for some of them to realize who the usher really was. It not a surprise to hear that directors and actors involved would be watching their own movie at the Arclight, just to get a read on how the audience reacts, but it rare to see a director do something like this.
