A release date for Deep Silver’s follow up to the surprise hit open-world zombie survival game, Dead Island, has been officially announced.
The publisher announced that the sequel, which is titled Dead Island: Riptide, will arrive on April 23, 2013. A special edition of the game will also be available that will offer up a digital strategy map, weapons mods, and a unique character skin.
The heroes of the first game have escaped the island of Banoi to the safety of a military ship, but soon a furious storm hits, and the virus begins spreading around the ship, putting them all right back into the nightmare they had escaped.
Dead Island: Riptide brings back the combination of open-wold zombie survival RPG action and the option of first-person online co-op gameplay that the first game offered. It will also feature a brand new character (likely a soldier type from the military ship), vehicles, levels, and weather conditions, as well as an evolved multi-player experience, weapon proficiency, and hub defense game mechanics.
The game will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
