About the Art Prints

Weta Workshop has built upon its seven years’ experience creating Middle-earth for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and has spent four years assisting in conceptually designing Middle-earth for The Hobbit films opening in theatres in December.

Weta is back in Middle-earth.

The very same New Zealand artists and craftspeople who worked on the films, have designed and created the most authentic range of artwork for fans to own, collect and cherish.

Weta would like to give Geeks of Doom fans an opportunity to win one of three art prints from the film (click on the images for full larger view).

About Weta Workshop

Weta Workshop houses a range of disciplines under one roof – including conceptual design, weapons, armour & chainmaille, specialist props, vehicles, specialty costumes, models & miniatures, special makeup & prosthetics, public art & displays.

The team at Weta Workshop enjoys engaging in projects holistically, from the earliest stages of technical analysis and conceptual design through to manufacture across all departments and final delivery on set to anywhere in the world. Drawing on more than 25 years of filmmaking experience, five-times Oscar-winning Design and Effects Supervisor Richard Taylor is intimately involved in all projects from concept through to delivery.

Although best known for the company’s design and effects work on award-winning film projects, including Lord of the Rings Trilogy, King Kong, Avatar, District 9, The Adventures of Tintin and The Hobbit (in production), Weta Workshop offers services to all creative industries throughout the world.

The company that would one day be known as Weta was born as RT Effects in the back room of Richard Taylor and Tania Rodger’s Wellington flat in 1987. From this humble base of operations, Richard Taylor and Tania Rodger supported the emerging local film industry with a range of services in special effects, creature work, prosthetics and make-up effects. In 1994, Richard and Tania joined with friends Peter Jackson and Jamie Selkirk to expand the company dramatically to service the local and international industry’s special effects requirements. They named their new company Weta, with Richard and Tania heading up Weta Workshop, the conceptual design and creative services arm of the greater Weta company.

  1. I can literally count the number of times I’ve entered online competitions that were (a) open worldwide and (b) had a physical prize.

    Thanks for doing this! :D

  2. 1. Great that this is international, thanks!
    2. Shame ‘zip’ will only accept 5 characters, as my postal code is 6 and it can’t be left blank! Oh well…

  3. Hi Fran, you can put in a dummy zip and flesh out your proper address in the additional notes section. Good luck!

  4. I read The Hobbit when I was in second grade and it is the reason I fell in love with books. This is a great contest!
