As part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 album deals for November 2012, Joy Division‘s The Best of Joy Division is on sale for only $5.
For a band that only existed for four years and recorded two full studio albums, Joy Division’s music has had a lasting influence on fans and musicians alike. Released in 2008, The Best of Joy Division contains tracks from both studio albums, plus singles that were released following the death of lead singer Ian Curtis, who committed suicide in 1980. Their haunting yet vibrant post-punk melodic rock sound and melancholy lyrics are filled with broken hearts, isolation, and despair, but also love, and transport you back to the idealistic days of bittersweet youth when all you wanted to do was to rebel against the establishment (whatever that meant) and your biggest problems were getting beer and getting laid. Key tracks are “Transmission,” “She’s Lost Control,” “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” and “Isolation.”
