Another video game franchise is ready to try its hand at becoming a movie, attempting to prove once and for all that games can become solid movies. This time around, however, the movie will be of the animated variety.
It’s being reported that Ratchet & Clank, the Insomniac Games series that follows a lombax mechanic named Ratchet and his robotic friend Clank as they work their way through numerous adventures, is set to be turned into a 3D animated feature by Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment.
Instead of casting famous actors to play the main characters in the movie, they will instead rely on the familiar in hopes of delivering a better and more faithful final product. That means voice actors like James A. Taylor (Ratchet), David Kaye (Clank), and Jim Ward (Qwark) will all be present and accounted for.
The movie will be directed by Jericca Cleland, who worked in the art department for Finding Nemo and in the animation department for Toy Story 2, and written by T.J. Fixman, a senior writer at Insomniac Games whose goal is to deliver the kind of dialogue and humor that the Ratchet & Clank games are known for.
The hope is to have the movie ready by early 2015.
Are you excited for a 3D animated Ratchet & Clank movie, or is even keep the game franchise’s talent around the movie not enough to pull off?
