Tom Hiddleston fans, get ready for seeing – or rather hearing – The Avengers star like never before… as the voice of a young Captain James Hook. The announcement was made during the mega animation presentation today at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA.
The talented actor will provide the voice of James, a cabin boy, who eventually ends up being Captain Hook in the new Disneytoon Studios’ Disney Fairies animated film The Pirate Fairy. Mad Men star Christina Hendricks will voice Zarina, a fairy who leaves Pixie Hollow and heads off to Never Land, befriending pirates like James along the way.
Hiddleston drew among the loudest and most passionate applause – especially from fangirls – at the entire three-hour event, which was filled with many other major announcements. He said he has loved Disney from a very young age, considering Baloo from The Jungle Book a “spiritual godfather.” When Hiddleston mentioned he used to sing the classic “Bare Necessities” tune, the crowd encouraged him to belt out the ditty. And how he did. Hiddleston snapped his fingers, as did audience members, as he sung a bit of the tune.
John Lasseter, chief creative officer for Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, who hosted the presentation, said that the audience should consider Hiddleston singing an “exclusive,” not that this was planned by any means.
Hendricks’ Zarina, while not explored as much as Hiddleston’s James, is considered to be a “tough, kick-a** pirate” by the film’s director Peggy Holmes.

Additionally, the audience heard an original song from the movie, as we watched a scene (in storyboard form) of the jolly pirates chanting a fun, clever sea song.
When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina steals Pixie Hollow’s all-important Blue Pixie Dust, and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place. However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink’s world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow. With comedy, heart and epic thrills for the whole family, “The Pirate Fairy” sets sail Spring 2014.
Are you looking forward to Hiddleston as Hook? Share your thoughts!
I know I’m looking forward to The Pirate Fairy when it’s release next Spring, though I’m not even in the targeted age demographic!
But that’s not all!
Spring 2015 will see the release of DisneyToon Studios’ Legend of the Never Beast, which follows Tinker Bell and fairy Fawn befriending Ruff the Never Beast. All they want to do is defend the mysterious creature, though the rest of Pixie Hollow has other plans. Ooh, mysterious!
