Hot off the news that AMC would be moving forward with a Breaking Bad spinoff, tentatively titled Better Call Saul based on the character Saul Goodman, comes word that the network is moving forward with another spinoff based off one of their highly successful shows.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMC has given the greenlight for an untitled Walking Dead spinoff. The announcement was made by the network, The Walking Dead comic book creator Robert Kirkman, and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert.
But instead of basing the series on previous characters, the spinoff will start off with a “clean slate” and feature new characters that weren’t introduced into the series or comics.
AMC president and GM Charlie Collier on the announcement:
This is what Kirkman had to say about the spinoff:
With Breaking Bad coming to an end in two weeks, Mad Men ringing in its final season next year, The Killing being cancelled (again), and Low Winter Sun failing to meet expectations, the news of the Walking Dead spinoff couldn’t have come at a better time.
But not all of AMC’s new shows will be spinoffs. The network also has original programming that will be released in the new year.
Season four of The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 13, 2013.
Would you watch The Walking Dead spinoff? Is this a sign that AMC will start making spinoffs of their hit shows?
