In The Last Broadcast, Niko and Harumi are urban explorers who have gotten themselves into hot water when they discover some information about a magician, Benjamin Blackhall, who was accidentally killed on stage in 1934. Ivan, himself a magician, has been thrown into the mystery when he also begins digging up information about Blackhall.

Now a friend of Ivan’s is missing, while Niko and Harumi have a psychic investigator following them. When their paths cross, will they be able to help each other unravel the mystery? Or doe Blackhall’s fate await them as well?

There’s something so intriguing about the world of magicians. Despite what reason, and Penn and Teller show us, deep down we want to believe that there’s more to the trick. At the very least, we want to believe enough to get a good story out of it, and The Last Broadcast draws us in with that mystique. Shadowy figures stalk the night, rare books hold mysterious clues, and the people you meet may be more than they seem.

With a touch of 19th century spiritualism, and a dash of Arthur Conan Doyle, André Sirangelo has written a satisfying little mystery. The clues beg you to follow them, without being so frustrating that you want to skip ahead.

Gabriel Iumazark‘s art is a treasure all by itself. Each page is a visual treat, with its subdued tones and expressive lines adding to the mysterious feel of the story. All of the elements come together to create one fantastic read in The Last Broadcast. If you’re a fan of mystery, or old-timey magic, this title will keep you enthralled.
