Whether it is to polish the script or add more product placement, studios asking for rewrites is not entirely surprising. But the controversy surrounding Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s ousting of Ant-Man came as somewhat of a shock. Part issues with product placement, part homogenizing the script, and part disagreements, Disney and Marvel replaced Wright with Peyton Reed at the helm and Adam McKay doing the rewrites.
But with McKay busy with other commitments, it’s hard to believe that the comedic writer would stick around long enough to fix the script during filming, and as such, new writers have been brought in to polish the work that’s been done. Hit the jump for more.
According to a report, Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer are now doing the rewrites for Ant-Man. The report says that the duo have been hired as production writers, who will hang around the Ant-Man set during the few months of filming and make rewrites as needed.
The two aren’t household names, but Ferrari and Barrer are best known for penning the Sabrina The Teenage Witch reboot for Sony. The two also have penned the Die In A Gunfight script, which ended up on the infamous Black List. Both must have left quite an impression on Marvel for the two to be brought on board.
With production set to begin soon, and Comic-Con only two weeks away, expect to hear more Ant-Man news in the coming days.
Starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Peña, Patrick Wilson, Matt Gerald, and David Dastmalchian, Ant-Man opens in theaters on July 17, 2015.
