Super Power Beat Down: Punisher Versus Red Hood

In the vast digital expanse that is the internet, there exist many awesome things. And if you are a subscriber to any social media sites, you’ve probably seen a good bit of them. But every once in a while I am shown something that makes me wonder where I’ve been and why my friends never mentioned it. Case in point: Super Power Beat Down from Machinima.

This live action series takes characters from a wide variety of sources and pits them against one another. But to make things as unbiased as possible, the final result of who wins is determined through fan voting. So while I might not completely agree with a particular outcome, the votes were tallied and the masses have spoken.

Continue below for more and to watch the newest episode in the series: Super Power Beat Down, Episode 12: Punisher Versus Red Hood.

Directed by Aaron Shoenke, well known for his indie Batman-inspired fan films, this particular episode features Kevin Porter (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) as Punisher and Rich Manly as Red Hood. These two vigilante powerhouses square off in an alley within an unnamed city. True to form, guns, knives, and explosives play an integral part of the battle, though quite often their martial arts backgrounds are also incorporated while they each seek to finish off the other.

Now as I said before, these battles are determined based on fans casting their votes for their favorite character. Personally, I’m familiar with both of them and already knew who I wanted to win. But if you aren’t sure of who’s who, let me give you the quick and dirty.

Marvel’s Punisher, aka Frank Castle, is an ex-Marine whose family was murdered after witnessing a mob hit. Vowing revenge, but receiving no help from local authorities, he becomes a one-man army hell bent on erasing criminals from the Earth by any means necessary. He is an expert marksman, exceptionally skilled at hand-to-hand combat, and a tactician of superior ability. His preferred weapons are explosives and firearms, of which he has many. He has had access to a multitude of tech gadgets but often falls back on his tried and true methods of face-to-face killing. Stubborn and unyielding, he oftentimes doesn’t know when to quit.

DC’s Red Hood was originally trained by none other than Batman himself. A former Robin, also known as Jason Todd, he has chosen a different path than that of the Dark Knight. Though he is a nearly flawless martial artist, he has become more than passingly familiar with firearms and is seldom seen without several. Traveling the world and learning from various master assassins, his skill-set is far beyond that of most others, and has served him exceptionally well in the past. Ruthless and crafty, he uses his abilities to outwit and outmaneuver his opponents. Unfortunately, he often lets rage blind him to his surroundings and takes chances where a more veteran warrior would not.

Now that you have a bit of information about the combatants, check out the battle and decide for yourself if you agree with the outcome. And as you can probably guess, there are many more of these Super Power Beat Down shows that are begging to be watched. So far DC characters have only been defeated once, whereas Marvel is not doing as well with three wins and three losses (all three of those were against DC). Who will win this time? You’ll just have to watch and find out!
