For lovers of filmmaking as an art, Terrence Malick is a living master. Since the 1970s, he’s been a critical darling and award-winning filmmaker whose style is breathtaking, heart-wrenching, and ethereal. You can get a small taste of his dramatic and beautiful style in the new trailer for his upcoming film Knight of Cups – watch it here below.

The official synopsis is being kept mostly under lock and key, but what we do know is that Christian Bale stars as Rick, who is swept up in the lavish party lifestyle of Los Angeles and Hollywood. Best guess (after watching the trailer) is that Rick is going to have a soul-searching moment and try to escape the excess and depravity of the party life in hopes of redeeming himself, like an epic quest to become more “human” and less of the image of a man who isn’t even real. Sounds perfect for a Malick film, if you ask me.

Supporting Bale is a veritable pantheon of accomplished actors: Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Antonio Banderas, Wes Bently, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Brian Dennehy, amongst others.

Knight of Cups is due in theaters February of 2015.
