Fans who stick around to see the after credits scene for the Hunger Games movies may have noticed the progression of the mockingjay breaking free from its circular imprisonment. This goes for those teaser posters as well.
And now with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 opening in theaters this November, Lionsgate has released both the teaser poster and trailer for the film. Hit the jump to check them out.
The studio has been doing some extremely stellar marketing for the entire franchise using social media, viral marketing campaigns, fan conventions, and premieres to excite their fans and amp up the anticipation.
These may be just simple teasers, but there has been a progression of sorts with these posters and flaming mockingjay teasers. Throughout the three films, the mockingjay has been in a circular imprisonment. But in this fourth one, the bird is not in the circle — because you know, “breaking free” symbolism or something like that.
The poster, which debuted on EW, has the “The Fire Will Burn Forever” tag at the bottom the poster to remind us about the legacy of both the YA novels and the films. Is the trilogy — or quadrilogy — the greatest of them all? Not really sure, but there is no doubt that it has left its mark and built a huge fanbase.
The teaser trailer shows the entire progression. It is also being reported that the teaser is attached to showings of The Divergent Series: Insurgent — which opens this weekend.
The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, Julianne Moore, and Donald Sutherland, and is directed by Francis Lawrence with Peter Craig and Danny Strong writing the screenplay.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 2 opens in theaters on November 20.
