The Gunman Blu-ray Releases

Welcome back to another edition of Digital Wire Blu-ray Releases. This week, we have the news on several upcoming Blu-ray and DVD debuts, including two recent action-thrillers starring Sean Penn and Liam Neeson and the high-definition debut of an early 21st century cult classic comedy.

Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon, as well as a list of titles coming out this week.

We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power. The cover art for certain titles has yet to be finalized.

The Gunman

From accomplished action director Pierre Morel (Taken) comes the star-studded thriller The Gunman, starring Sean Penn, Ray Winstone, Idris Elba, and Javier Bardem. Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release Morel’s latest feature on Blu-ray and DVD on June 30, 2015. So far the only extra feature looks to be a downloadable Ultraviolet digital copy.

Run All Night

Speaking of action flicks with aging male leads, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release the latest Liam Neeson potboiler Run All Night, co-starring Ed Harris and Joel Kinnaman, on Blu-ray and DVD on June 16, 2015. A small assortment of bonus features will be included:

Shoot All Night – Go behind the scenes with Collet-Serra as his team creates a white-knuckle ride through New York’s underbelly.
Action All Night – The film’s cast and crew discuss that special something that has made Neeson a staple of grit and vulnerability on the screen.

Joe Dirt

I know a lot of people find 2001’s David Spade-headlining Joe Dirt to be the pinnacle of that year’s spate of unremarkable gross-out comedy, but no amount of repeat daily showings on HBO could convince me to tune in for more than two minutes at a time. In the end it mattered little because the tale of a cartoon hick with a mullet even more ridiculous than mullets are known for being managed to forcibly extract laughs from people who have probably never watched This is Spinal Tap or Duck Soup, and in the process built up enough of a cult following the belated creation of a sequel, the upcoming Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser. This time around I intend to spare myself the trouble and just ignore that movie altogether. In the meantime, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will give the original its long-awaited Blu-ray premiere on July 7, 2015. For those of you who ever wanted to see Kid Rock attempt to act in high-definition, well then, this would be almost like the second coming of Yahweh’s only offspring in your eyes. Extra features will include:

First look at Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser
David Spade Commentary
Director’s Commentary
Outtakes & Bloopers Reel
Deleted & Alternate Scenes
Theatrical Trailers
