I think we found the new breakout hit! Spike TV, You should buy this right now. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night, Jimmy Fallon was joined by Denis Leary and Molly Shannon doing one of his new bits, “Nonsense Karaoke.” Shannon channelled Mary Katherine Gallagher and sang the very wrong lyrics to TLC’s “Waterfalls.” Leary, already in costume having come from a photo shoot for his upcoming FX show, Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, did a wonky version (for the lyrics, not the singing) of Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me.”
Watch that clip, plus the clip of Leary recounting how he almost got stabbed by an insulted Judas Priest fan, how he was mistaken for Jane Lynch, and Chris Pratt’s “Nonsense Karaoke” below.
This was delicious, not only because anything with Jimmy Fallon’s delighful cackle as the background noise is fantastic, but because the lyrics are crazy, the performers really sing it, and they manage to do so with a straight face. Here is a taste:
Shannon (to the tune of TLC’s “Waterfalls”): “My bony cousin shaved a strip of his leg hair, with a butter knife he found in a hutch.”
Leary (to the tune of Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me”): “Scrub a little dog baby, put him in a thong. Livin in a puddle with a Rambo clone.”
The 2nd clip shared was “The Worst I Ever Bombed” with Denis Leary. He recounted a tale about a standup routine he was doing where he made fun of Judas Priest. A Judas Priest fan was none too happy. See how he reacted.
The 3rd clip gives a detailed explanation of his costume and how he was mistaken for Jane Lynch. I can totally see that.
The 4th clip is “Nonsense Karaoke” with Chris Pratt singing “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson “featuring Chris Pratt,” and Jimmy Fallon doing “Stay WIth Me” by Sam Smith.
