Adam Edge Copeland Flash

Life is good for geeks! If you’re a joint comic book/pro wrestling geek like me, life is VERY good. News broke this week that Adam “Edge” Copeland will be joining the cast of The CW’s hit show The Flash for season 2 as Atom Smasher. This Atom Smasher will be a villain – different from his DC Comics counterpart. The character has super strength, and the ability to grow to enormous sizes. He will certainly be a match for Barry Allen (Grant Gustin).

Check out some of the tweets about this and the WWE below.

Copeland wrestled as Edge in the WWE since his debut in 1998. He was one of the most successful wrestlers of the modern era, winning over 30 collective titles, including multiple World Championships. He has some acting chops as well. After retiring in 2011 due to neck injuries, Copeland had a multi-year role on the Syfy channel show Haven. He first dabbled in acting back in 2000 with a small role in Highlander: Endgame, and starred in the WWE film, Bending the Rules alongside Jamie Kennedy in 2012.

This is not the first WWE/CW related news of the year. Earlier this year, Arrow star and unabashed wrestling fan, Stephen Amell, appeared on Monday Night Raw and was accosted by Stardust (a costumed character portrayed by Cody Rhodes). The two started a Twitter war, with signs and rumors pointing towards Amell agreeing to get involved with Stardust around WWE’s annual August event, Summerslam, which this year, emanates from Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Center.

Rhodes, whose legendary wrestler father Dusty Rhodes just passed away, took a short hiatus, but re-debuted this past Monday night. Cody recently posted in a blog that he was “deeply influenced by comic books” and he recalls his father’s lockscreen on his cell phone was an image of him (as Stardust), in a heated stare-down with Amell. His father’s advice was always, “finish what you started”.

Fans of The Flash and Arrow as well as WWE fans will be able to rejoice soon. Any updated information about Amell/Stardust will be reported here.

The Flash returns to The CW on Tuesday, October 6th at 8:00pm ET.
