Many of the characters of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice have been revealed in the past few weeks. The recent trailer confirmed that Holly Hunter‘s character was a politician who heads a Senate Subcommittee holding Superman responsible for his actions in Man of Steel.
However, Scoot McNairy‘s involvement is still unknown. The actor was cast for a mysterious role back in 2014, and a leaked photo revealed that he was wearing a pair of green socks, indicating that there would be some sort of CGI involved. Some believed that he would be playing The Flash, a belief that was quickly dispelled when Ezra Miller was confirmed for the role. But now a new rumor has emerged that says he may be wearing those green socks for another reason. More on the rumor below.
Umberto Gonzales aka El Mayimbe dropped the latest Batman v Superman scoop on Heroic Hollywood. According to his latest rumor, McNairy is actually playing Jimmy Olsen, and that the character may have lost his legs during the destruction of Metropolis seen in Man of Steel. Of course this has yet to be confirmed by those close to the film, so let’s take this rumor with a grain of salt.
But if the rumor is true, then it would be a great change to the character that has been a part of the Superman canon for a long time. Olsen is the photographer for Metropolis’ newspaper, The Daily Planet, and was officially introduced back in 1941. As the site reports, the twist is that Jimmy Olsen lost his legs after they were pinned down by falling building rubble.
As we have seen in the trailer, the Senate is bringing in Superman for questioning and holding court hearings after the character was involved in Man of Steel‘s city-wide battle. Of course with a fight as wide-spread as that one, there is bound to be more than a handful of casualties, and bringing in witnesses like Jimmy Olsen to testify in the Senate meetings may help or hurt Superman’s reputation.
To reiterate, this is merely a rumor, which the studio has to comment on or confirm.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, and Jason Momoa. It is directed by Zack Snyder, and written by Chris Terrio, based on a story by David Goyer. The film opens in theaters on March 26, 2016.
