As we are nearing the end of the summer blockbuster season, we are seeing the films that studios felt couldn’t stand up to the likes of the tentpole juggernauts. 20th Century Fox will be rolling out Hitman: Agent 47 in just a couple of weeks, and now they have just revealed a new trailer. Based on the successful video game franchise of the same name, the new trailer shows more of those crazy video game action sequences adapted for the big screen. We also get a few more details behind Zachary Quinto‘s character, and what his motivations are in the film.
Check out the latest trailer for the film below.
It was bound to be spoiled sooner or later, but it appears that Quinto is playing an upgraded version of an almost invincible agent, making his quest to make more of them seem a little strange. Guess he doesn’t want something as or more powerful than himself as competition. He manages to find a woman (Hannah Ware) with latent agent abilities, and deceives her by telling her that the agent (Rupert Friend) is trying to kill her, unbeknownst to her that he is actually trying to save her.
I can’t help but feel that Fox just wants to get the Hitman: Agent 47 marketing campaign over with. Though the film made an appearance at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was nowhere to be seen at this year’s. The trailers haven’t been doing a good job of selling us that this will be a film worth watching, although the zip lining sequence does look like it be a lot of fun to watch.
Directed by Aleksander Bach, Hitman: Agent 47 opens in theaters on August 21.
HITMAN: AGENT 47 centers on an elite assassin who was genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, and is known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. He is the culmination of decades of research – and forty-six earlier Agent clones — endowing him with unprecedented strength, speed, stamina and intelligence. His latest target is a mega-corporation that plans to unlock the secret of Agent 47’s past to create an army of killers whose powers surpass even his own. Teaming up with a young woman who may hold the secret to overcoming their powerful and clandestine enemies, 47 confronts stunning revelations about his own origins and squares off in an epic battle with his deadliest foe.
