The release of the next movie from visionary The Devil’s Backbone, Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, and Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro, titled Crimson Peak, is a little over a couple of weeks away already, believe it or not.
To help keep you excited for the gothic horror tale, or ignite some excitement in you if you were previously unfamiliar with the movie, Legendary Pictures has been releasing some preview goodies in the form of some featurettes and TV spots. You can find all of these along with a synopsis for the movie below.
SYNOPSIS:
Legendary Pictures’ CRIMSON PEAK, a co-production with Universal Pictures, is a haunting gothic horror story directed by the master of dark fairy tales, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim), written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam. In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds”¦and remembers. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, del Toro and Callum Greene produce, and Jillian Share executive produces.
When del Toro himself personally gave us a tour of the Crimson Peak exhibit at San Diego Comic-Con 2014, he described the movie as an older sibling to his smaller Spanish language films, the aforementioned Pan’s Labyrinth and The Devil’s Backbone. You can get a feel for this in the previews we’ve seen, and there’s some cool “shared universe” sort of details fans of the director’s Spanish language titles will most definitely appreciate here. For example, in the featurette video “A Look Inside” below, you can see a ghost at the 1:07 mark that has a similar style to the ghost in Devil’s Backbone, with part of the specter flowing upwards.
Crimson Peak will be released in theaters on October 16th. You can find previously released trailers and more right here.
