iZombie returns to The CW for season 2 in less than a week, so if you want to catch up on all things perky zombie medical assistant, you need to purchase iZombie – The Complete First Season. All 13 lively episodes are on 3 discs, and include deleted scenes, as well as the SDCC 2014 iZombie panel with creators Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright, and stars Rose McIver, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley, and David Anders.
Check out what’s included in the DVD below.
Rose McIver stars as Olivia “Liv” Moore, a med student with a dreamy fiancé and a great life ahead of her … until she’s wakes up after a party dead on the beach. Yes, dead. But not really dead. Turns out, she’s was bit and is now a zombie. Her appearance is drastically altered, which forces her to abandon her old life – including, reluctantly, the fiancé – and gets a job at the city medical examiner’s office so she’ll have access to the food she needs to get by — brains. But, with brain consumption comes the uncontrollable side effect of also temporarily gaining the deceased’s memories and compulsions. While this is tough on Liv, it comes in handy when she helps the police solve crimes. It’s also quite entertaining for the rest of us, as the show combines humor with serious circumstances.
Deleted scenes are usually deleted for a good reason, tightening the story, getting rid of unnecessary exposition, and time constraints. However, they are still enjoyable. Some of the deleted scenes on this DVD include Liv explaining (lying) to in-the-dark Clive how her visions work, and more Health Inspector Major checking out Blaine’s brain shop.
At the Comic-Con panel, the creators discuss what was preserved and what was omitted from the comic book series that the television show is based on. Members of the cast take turns giving their takes on their own character, including Anders always being the bad guy. Robert Buckley is really funny. And Diane Ruggiero-Wright’s favorite zombie movie is Shaun of the Dead (mine too).
I reviewed all 13 episodes of the first season of the TV series as it was airing, and I loved every minute of it, so it’s a no-brainer (get it?) that I would recommend grabbing the Season 1 DVD if you haven’t check out this show yet.
