Taking a slight detour from their usual Tuesday Honest Trailer, the folks at Screen Junkies debut the Honest Teaser for the most anticipated movie event, maybe ever… Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A trailer so amazing, it nearly broke the internet and resulted in Fandango servers crashing for days. It gets the HT treatment here as Screen Junkies show the trailer, while fans everywhere interpret every single screenshot to its most minute detail.
Check out the Honest Trailer below.
From the opening shot and first ping of music, we get soft-voiced fan-gasms in the background. “Is that Leia? It looks like Leia from Return of the Jedi? Is that the crashed star destroyer from the first trailer?” C’mon, you know that’s exactly how you and your friends reacted. Then we focus on Daisy Ridley’s character Rey. “Who are you?” the audience asks… “I’m not sure. There are a lot of fan theories out there,” a female voice responds.
Everything is open for mockery – from the ability to buy the soccer ball droid for $150, to the Lucasfilm banner changed to “NOT George Lucas,” to my personal favorite part, a gruff Han Solo voice doing phony narration telling the characters, “It’s all true, all of it… Midi-chlorians, Jar Jar, the Special Editions (complete with Greedo shooting first).
But it’s okay, because the trailer is guaranteed to make adults over 30 collectively get goosebumps, cry and shriek in glee at the same time, as we see old favorites like the Millenium Falcon, tie-fighters, wookies, Leia, Han, Luke, wait… WHERE THE F#&% IS LUKE?!
“The prequels”¦ they’re gnawing at you.”
“Just let them go.”
New Title – Star Wars: It’s on You, Abrams
The trailer ends by reminding us how cool the prequel trailers looked, and that tickets are unavailable forever. Hey James Cameron, Avatar is going down!
Screen Junkies have over 4.9 million subscribers on YouTube and release a new Honest Trailer every Tuesday. Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens will shatter box office records starting December 18th.
