Paramount Pictures has released the second trailer for Glenn Ficarra and John Requa‘s Whiskey Tango Foxtrot starring Tina Fey as a war correspondent stationed in Afghanistan. Though war can be a bit of a touchy subject, there have been a few satires that have found the balance of making light of it while also bringing it to our attention an informative way. With this movie, though, the film happens is based on Kim Barker‘s wartime memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The trailer does have a rather short runtime, but in all honesty, I think it does get its point across about a journalist’s life in a war-torn country. Check out the trailer below.
In the film, Fey is an inexperienced journalist who uses the assignment to cover Afghanistan as an excuse to get away from her monotonous life. Once there, she discovers it is nothing like she expected it to be. But she also learns that it can be a life-changing experience. Especially if she has friends like the more experienced war correspondent Tanya Vanderpoel (Margot Robbie) showing her the ropes.
The trailer does an excellent job of showing us that there will be a balance between the humor of being a fish out of water and the drama of war. Tayna asking Kim if she can sleep with her protection detail. Kim figuring out maybe an orange backpack wasn’t such a good idea to bring along if she doesn’t want to be a target. I just love how the two scoff at some of the worst pickup by someone who lies about being on the special forces.
Then it starts to get serious when they need a story to cover or risk going home empty-handed.
The film also stars Alfred Molina, Martin Freeman, Christopher Abbott, Nicholas Braun, Sheila Vand, Stephen Peacocke, Evan Jonigkeit, and Billy Bob Thornton. Paramount will release Whiskey Tango Foxtrot on March 4th.
