We’ve all been waiting for this one! To prep for the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in theaters months ago the gang at Screen Junkies did Honest Trailers for Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman and Superman directed by Richard Donner in 1978. Now the waiting is finally over as today, to celebrate the release of the Batman v Superman extended cut on Blu-ray, we finally get the BvS Honest Trailer. I wonder if fan response will be as divided as it was for the actual movie… nah, that’s literally impossible.
Check out the Honest Trailer below.
Watch as Zack Snyder unites Earth’s two greatest heroes and divides everyone else on Earth. Narrator Jon Bailey uses his epic voice to joke about how the movie was more a battle between critics and fans than it was between, you know, Batman and Superman. Watch as they introduce the Justice League… with an email attachment, and somehow comic book accurate screen icons, filled with Quicktime quality videos… oh man, that part felt tacked on. Struggle with Snyder as he can’t decide whether to direct an awesome new Batman movie, or another gloomy and dark Superman sequel. And seriously, I like Henry Cavill (and Bailey likes his abs), but all he does is mope, again. And while Cavill is kinda just there, Ben Affleck totally shut up the internet by being the best Batman since Michael Keaton… yeah, I said that, take that American Psycho!
In the line I laughed the hardest at, Bailey adds, “Also everything Wonder Woman did was really cool; sorry if that seemed really tacked on and out of place, but you know, so was she.” It’s funny because it’s true. Then there Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) who was the bane (no pun intended) of most fans’ existence in this movie (though I liked him, huzzah). Rather than detail Lex’s plan, Screen Junkies lays it out for you in all 26 glorious steps including, Step 16 – Pee in a jar and Step 23 – Blackmail Superman into fighting Batman (even though it negates earlier plans… don’t worry about it.
You waited all your life to watch these heroes battle… now wait two more hours and then revel in the epic 8-minutes of fighting, before they become best friends because their moms have the same name. Seriously when Martha Wayne and Martha Kent were named in the comics generations ago do you the writers sat back and thought, “one day, the Marthas will help unite them all!” To quote Bailey, DUMB is a one syllable word that handles it pretty well. Last but not least, there’s the shameless packaging of countless movie plots into one film, that focused more on setting up a universe, than it did making one cohesive narrative for 3 hours.
Starring: Batfleck Forever, Last Son of Crapped On, Jeremy’s Iron, Teenage Mutant Abomination Lord of the Rings Cave Troll (HAHA Doomsday), Xena: Warrior Cameo, Martha Wayne, AND Martha Kent… OH NOW I GET IT! New Title: (Deep Breath) Fans v. Batman v. Superman v. Critics v. Other Fans v. Executives v. Zack Snyder v. Expectations – Can’t Do Them All Justice. Seriously they hit the nail on the head with this one. It’s one of the longest Honest Trailers, but it needed to be to cut through all stuff in there.
Screen Junkies has over 5.6 million subscribers on YouTube and releases a new Honest Trailer every Tuesday. The BvS Ultimate Edition is available now.
