“So if we’re not funny, blame Ethan’s disability.”
Asperger’s Are Us is two things: a former comedy troupe made up of four friends with varying degrees of autism, and a documentary chronicling their story and last show together. These young men, Ethan Finlan, New Michael Ingemi, Noah Britton, and Jack Hanke, give us a look inside real friendships, that most people don’t get to see.
Check out the trailer here below for the film Asperger’s Are Us.
The film, which made its world premiere in March at the SXSW 2016 Film Festival, was directed by Alex Lehmann (Blue Jay), and produced by Mark and Jay Duplass (the team behind the HBO series Togetherness), and looks to hit the heart hard. The trailer alone is compelling.
From the doc: “When you have asperger’s, you can do things that are really, really great. Not in spite of having autism, but through it.”
Asperger’s Are Us debuts on November 11, 2016 at The Village East in NYC, and November 18th in LA. The film will also be available on iTunes on November 15th, 2016 and on select VOD platforms.
For the members of the comedy troupe “Asperger’s Are Us,” it’s easier to associate with a faceless audience than with their own families. No matter who the crowd, best friends Noah, New Michael, Jack and Ethan have one simple mantra: “We would much rather the audience appreciate us as comedians than people who have overcome adversity.” In this coming-of-age heartfelt documentary, this band of brothers finds themselves at a crossroad. With real life pulling them apart, they decide to plan one ambitious farewell show before they all go their separate ways. People with Asperger’s don’t deal well with uncertainty, and this is the most uncertain time in their lives.
