Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, the new original scripted television series, has been given the green light for a Season 2 by BBC America, the network has announced.
Season 2 will get 10 episodes, which will premiere some time in 2017.
The show is based on the novels by Douglas Adams, and was adapted for television by Max Landis (Chronicle), who penned the 8-episode first season and served as executive producer along with showrunner Robert Cooper.
Season 1 introduced us to Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett), in a story that took Adam’s title detective from his native England to America, where he meets a downtrodden bellhop named Todd (Elijah Wood), who becomes his reluctant assistant. Dirk’s method of saving cases is a “holistic” one, he says, where “everything is connected,” but we learned as the season went on that he rarely gets anything right, yet things have a way of working on for him. Together, the two try to solve a complicated, convoluted murder case with many interlocking parts. There’s lots of action, thrills, drama, and humor, and it’s one of my favorite shows of the year!
Season 1 is still underway, with the final two episodes coming December 3rd and 10th. You can catch up on the first season through BBC America on Demand through your cable provider, or through bbcamerica.com or through the BBC America app.
Season 1 official synopsis:
When the bizarre murder of a millionaire thrusts loner Todd (Elijah Wood), into the orbit of Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett), an eccentric detective who believes they’re destined to solve the murder-mystery together, his life will never be the same. They’ll cross unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and dangerous characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth.
