This year’s Pete’s Dragon comes off the heels of Disney’s recent live-action adaptation successes like Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book. While the original film was never as popular as some of these remakes, it has gained a cult following and David Lowery’s reimagining resonated with critics. Now, the film is available for you to own for your home entertainment pleasure on Blu-ray/DVD or Digital Download.

In this reimagining, a 10-year-old boy orphaned boy named Pete (Oakes Fegley) is discovered living in the woods, and he claims to have been there with his friend Elliot, a giant green dragon. A local park ranger named Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) takes him in, while trying to discover the truth about Pete’s situation. While his story seems far-fetched, Grace’s dad (Robert Redford) has been telling the tale of a mythical dragon in the woods for decades. Meanwhile, Elliot goes looking for Pete, only to come up against Karl Urban’s crew of lumberjacks, who are on the hunt for the dragon.

Check out the full review we did for the film’s theatrical run, and here below we’ll give you a look at some of the bonus features that are available with the home video release.

“Notes To Self: A Director’s Diary” is a look at the personal diary Lowery kept during the production of Pete’s Dragon. It’s a very detailed chronicle of how filming went and a glimpse inside the filmmaker’s mind that helped make this magical film possible.

“Making Magic” covers how Pete’s dragon friend, Elliot, came to life. Drawing inspiration from that childhood pet you had (or may still have), you’ll discover the design process that went into Elliot and how they worked with WETA to create this life-like dragon.

“Disappearing Moments” is your basic deleted scenes feature. Like most deleted scenes, they didn’t fit into the theatrical narrative and went straight to the cutting room floor. Luckily, Lowery loved these scenes so much, he decided to share them with us.

Lowery, co-screenwriter Toby Halbrooks, and leads Oakes Fegley and Oona Laurence provide the feature-length audio commentary.

There are also bloopers to show some of the film production’s lighter moments whenever the cast or someone just flubs a line or stands in the wrong spot. A nice break from watching all the production goods.

Finally, there are two music videos: “Nobody Knows” by The Lumineers and “Something Wild” by Lindsey Stirling (Featuring Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness).

The Blu-ray Combo Pack contains the film on Blu-ray and DVD, and includes a code for the Digital Download. Subtitles are included in French, Spanish, and English, with audio in English (DTS-HD High Res Audio), French (Dolby Digital 5.1), and Spanish (Dolby Digital 5.1).
