The creators of Better Call Saul, AMC’s Breaking Bad spin-off prequel series, didn’t expect fans to figure out so quickly that the first letter of each Season 2 episode title form an anagram for “Fring’s Back.” Fans of Breaking Bad will recognize that as Giancarlo Esposito’s character Gus Fring, but will the actor be making an appearance on the new season of Saul?
A new viral ad seems to hint at the fact that Fring will be seen again, and they are using Los Pollos Hermanos as a front to get your interest. Check out the ad here below.
Of course, the Los Pollos Hermanos ad may present the establishment as a family friendly restaurant that has a menu full of flavorful chicken. But Breaking Bad fans know it better as a front for a drug ring led by Gus Fring, the seemingly happy manager who is actually a deadly drug kingpin. The ad is not a confirmation that the character will appear in Saul, but it’s a good tease for now.
However, there is some speculation that it was Fring who left the “Don’t” note on Mike Ehrmentraut’s car before he was about to assassinate Hector Salamanca. Which makes sense since the two have a connection. But at the same time, the relationship between Fring and Salamanca isn’t what you call friendly. We’ll just have to wait and see who left that note, and if Fring is really coming to Saul.
At this point, we will have to assume that Mike and Jimmy will eventually meet Fring. It just depends on when the creators decide such a meeting could happen. In Breaking Bad, we saw some hints of what Fring’s life was like before he was a drug kingpin, and it wasn’t pretty. So this pre-Breaking Bad show should show us a glimpse of Fring’s rise to power.
Season 2 was by far the best, and not just because they had so many cameos like the Twins, Salamanca, and Domingo Gallardo “Krazy 8” Molina. Hopefully, they will give Season 3 the same treatment by dropping those cameos organically.
We’ll keep you up to date on casting developments for Better Call Saul. New episodes will air on AMC starting Spring 2017. And yes, the source link does take you to a Los Pollos Hermanos YouTube page.
