Into the Badlands Season 2

AMC has released the first trailer for season two of Into the Badlands, their wild post-apocalyptic steampunk martial arts ride of an original series. They’ve also announced a premiere date for fans to circle on their calendars.

The show has proven to be something of an acquired taste—not for everyone, but a satisfying escape from reality for those it is for. It combines impressive visuals, fight choreography, and unique and intriguing settings. Because it’s not for everyone, it was quite a while before AMC officially ordered the second season. To try to help bring in some new fans, the great Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) was added to the cast and can be seen in the trailer below.

If you haven’t yet seen it, do be sure to give the first season of Into the Badlands a watch. It’s only six episodes, and AMC will no doubt want to see increased numbers for season two when it comes time to decide on season three. Much better to jump on board now than find it down the road after it’s been canceled!

Here’s the show’s season one setup for those who missed it:

Centuries from now, a feudal society has emerged in the wake of civilization’s destruction. This area is now called the Badlands and is uneasily divided among seven rival Barons. Each Baron enforces their iron rule with the aid of loyal armies of trained assassins known as Clippers.

The most lethal of the Badlands’ Clippers is Sunny (Daniel Wu) — the Regent (Head Clipper) and most trusted advisor of Baron Quinn (Marton Csokas). For decades, Quinn has been unchallenged as the Badlands’ most powerful Baron; however, the territory’s newest Baron, The Widow (Emily Beecham), has begun testing his appetite for a fight.

One day, Sunny rescues M.K. (Aramis Knight), a teenage boy who has survived a deadly ambush. Sunny soon comes to understand that the teen harbors a dark secret and has a hefty bounty on his head. Together, they will embark on an odyssey that could mean the difference between chaos and enlightenment for everyone in the Badlands.

If you’re unable to find somewhere to watch the first season, it is available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Amazon Instant.

Into the Badlands season two kicks off on March 19th.
