Fathom Events: Luc Besson’s ‘The Fifth Element’ Returning To Theaters

The Fifth Element (1997)

I remember like it was yesterday: 15 years old, seeing a trio of films at my local theater twenty years ago. This particular day the trip consisted of Anaconda, Austin Powers, and my favorite of the three, Luc Besson‘s original space saga, The Fifth Element. Now, two decades later Besson wrote and directed another new space adventure, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, and to get crowds ready, The Fifth Element is returning to theaters thanks to Fathom Events and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The Fifth Element starred Bruce Willis as Corbin Dallas, a former soldier now taxi driver in the far off future when fate literally falls on him out of nowhere in the presence of Leeloo (Milla Jovovich). Leeloo turns out to be more than meets the eye and soon is the centerpiece of an interstellar chase involving an evil industrialist (Gary Oldman), a nervous priest (Ian Holm), and an overly obnoxious and scene chewing entertainer, Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker). Besson wrote and directed the film filled with jaw-dropping special effects, amazing creatures, aliens and characters, and a hilarious and fast-paced script.

Fathom and Sony are returning the film to select theaters for two days only, May 14th and 17th in a special restored 4K presentation. There will be two showings each day at 2:00pm and 7:00pm.

Besson will use the opportunity to promote Valerian and the City of a Thousands Planets with a brand new exclusive look at the upcoming film, debuting in theaters this summer. Valerian stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as protectors of the city Alpha and its inhabitants from an unknown evil. The film is based on a French comic and features a star-studded supporting cast including Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, John Goodman, and Clive Owen.

Go to fathomevents.com to find theaters near you playing The Fifth Element. After the 5/14 and 5/17 screenings, a 4K Ultra HD edition will be released on July 11th. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets hits theaters everywhere July 21, 2017.
