Warning! Spoilers below for the season 12 finale of Supernatural!

Last time on Supernatural, hunters were being taken out – Eileen (Shoshannah Stern) got killed by a hellhound. Mary (Samantha Smith) dreamt she killed a hunter, but it wasn’t a dream. The British Men of Letters and Lady Bevell (Elizabeth Blackmore) were brainwashing her. Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles) got the best of Bevell, but then Ketch (David Haydn-Jones) came and entombed all 3 of them in the bunker to die, with brainwashed Mary’s help. The power started to reverse between Crowley and Lucifer (Mark Sheppard, Mark Pellegrino), until Lucifer broke free and gleefully killed Crowley.

Spoilers below.

Supernatural 12.22 “Who We Are” review: Mary is checking off her killing todo list, while Sam and Dean and Lady Bevell figure out how to get out of there. They try spells – doesn’t work. They try brute force – doesn’t work. They are about to give up. They always thought they’d go out in a “blaze of glory,” which gives Dean an idea – “Yippee ki-yay, mother…” Dean explodes them out of there, and gets rewarded with a knee of raw meat.

Mary goes to Jodi’s. Aw man… run! But when Sam and Dean get there, Mary’s the one tied up. Bevell says she’s gone forever. She lied when she told them she could undo it, understandably.

They call all the hunters left alive for a meeting. Sam takes charge, “Follow me. Take the fight to them.” They are ready. Sam is quite inspirational, and his big bro is proud. Dean opts to stay behind, “I’m gonna save mom.” They hug, and I die a little inside.

Lady Bevell injects both of them so Dean can enter Mary’s head. He opens his eyes to their childhood home. Mary talks to and feeds young Dean and baby Sam, as adult Dean tells recounts their horrific childhood to get through to her. It starts affecting her in twitchy ways.

Dean: “I hate you and I love you.” She turns and finally sees him, but then Ketch pulls him out of it and starts beating him, viciouly. Lady Bevell’s throat is slit. Just as Ketch is about to kill Dean, Mary saves the day and kills Ketch, her eyes cold.

Mary is full of regrets, “Being here with you was too hard.” Sam comes home at that moment and… Group Hug! So sweet.

Supernatural 12.23 “All Along The Watchtower” (Finale) review: Kelly is upset because she wants to be there for her son, but knows she is going to die. Cass is being his old Castiel self. “I will raise him and I will make him someone you’ll be proud of.”

Dean is pissed – they beat the British Men of Letters and should be celebrating, but now have Lucifer to deal with.

Crowley was a rat the whole time! He resurrected himself. But poor Rowena! Sam calls her and Lucifer picks up, his usual charming and quippy self. It looks like he demolished her. Crowley shows up in the bunker, calling them “lumbering pies of flannel.” Love it.

Crowley: “If you help me put Lucifer back in the cage, I’ll close the gates of hell.”

Cass goes through a sliver of light, and almost dies, but a mystery man saves him. Who?

He comes back. It’s time to have a baby. Cass was so cute reading about pregnancy and taking an online doula class. Castiel tells Kelly, “I saw a world without pain or hunger or want… I saw paradise.” She doesn’t want to die, but will do anything for her baby.

The boys and Mary show up, bent on warding off Lucifer. First they check out the world in the sliver of light. Cass explains the alternate reality. Dean: “Like Narnia?” This earth is in constant war – a friend told him. Bobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Jim Beaver) – breathing into a paper bag now… Excuse me. Castiel tells them, “It’s the world you never saved.” Wow. I would be patting myself on the back so much if I were them.

Crowley shows back up after escaping from the bunker, and after the usual threats, he quips, “So apocalypse take 2. That’s your plan?” Yup. They lure Lucifer through the rift. Dean stalls with “Bobby’s” angel bullets, while Crowley and Sam create a spell that can trap Lucifer in that other world, but they need a life to sacrifice. And in the best selfless/f*** you move ever, Crowley sacrifices himself to trap Lucifer and save the day.

Silly Cass comes through the rift as it is about to close because he doesn’t know what’s going on. The boys are freaking out, but Cass makes it back through… and then an angel blade goes through his chest from his back, his light and life going out. Lucifer stands there smirking. Mary starts punching Lucifer in the face with some hyped up brass knuckles, but he grabs her as they both fall through the rift as it closes, trapping her there with him.

Dean stands there grieving, but Sam remembers the Nephilim. He runs to find it, and a scary full grown man smiles up at him with evil intent. If I were Sam, I would have quit on the spot.

I don’t even know how to feel. I am numb. Crowley is dead. Castiel is dead. Mary is in another world. It was the same devastating feeling as when Vikings killed Athelstan and then later when Ragnar died, when Game of Thrones killed Ned and Rob Stark, and then Jon Snow, when Grey’s Anatomy killed Derek Shephard, when Buffy dies at the end of season 5, or Anya and Spike at the end of season 7, and when Glenn died in Angel. Not cool! I am beyond devastated. I told someone that I need to wear widow’s garb now. There were only 4-5 main characters on the show and you killed 2 of them! Even Rowena… she may not have been a regular character, but she was important and fun. That one looked like it could have been faked. The others looked all too real. They don’t usually bring back characters after an angel blade death.

On another note, Pellegrino is so awesome. I know he caused all my faves to die, but every word out of his mouth is brilliant.

This whole season was terrific. They deserve the 13th season. I may be mad at them, but I will not stop watching.
