A trailer has been released for an upcoming Harry Potter fan film titled Voldemort: Origins of the Heir.
The movie follows the early days of Tom Marvolo Riddle, who would eventually become “he who must not be named,” Lord Voldemort. The project got off to a rocky start with the team behind it, Tryangle Films, initially running a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds before Warner Bros. found out about it and the campaign was ultimately shut down. But since then, the two parties have met and discussed the fan film, and WB has given the go ahead to make and release it so long as it’s released for free.
You can read more and watch the trailer below.
Gianmaria Pezzato, who co-directed the movie along with Stefano Prestia, said of the project and getting the greenlight from WB:
“We wondered, “˜What made Tom Riddle become Voldemort? What happened in those years, and what really went down at Hogwarts when he came back?’ There are some clues in the books which have not been transposed at all in the movies, but a lot goes unspoken. This is the story we want to tell: The rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first demise.
We had a private and confidential discussion with Warner Bros who contacted us during the period of the crowdfunding campaign. The only thing we can say is that they let us proceed with the film, in a non profit way, obviously.”
The hope is to release Voldemort: Origins of the Heir by the end of this year.
