D23 Expo 2017: ‘Toy Story 4’

Toy Story 4‘s progress has remained under the wraps for quite some time. The last time we heard anything about the sequel was actually at D23 2015, where it was revealed that Rashida Jones and Will McCormack’s script would be a romantic animated flick that centers on Woody reuniting with his long-lost love Bo Beep. Of course, other Pixar flicks like Coco and The Incredibles 2 took precedence since they are getting released earlier. But at this year’s D23 Expo on Friday, John Lasseter revealed a little bit more about the planned fourth installment. Check it the details below.

Director John Lasseter had explained that there wouldn’t be a Toy Story 4 unless there was a story that was worth telling. Based on our previous reports, Lasseter’s wife helped him find inspiration for a fourth feature film, and that’s when he went to work on a story with Pixar Brain Trust Member Andrew Stanton. From there they brought in Will McCormack and Rashida Jones to develop the treatment into a full script.

However, there are some new changes coming to the film, most notably Lasseter stepping down as director. Inside Out co-writer Josh Cooley will now act as director.

It’s still not clear as to why Cooley is taking charge and it’s not clear how much of a change will impact the overall story. But we did get a look inside the inner workings of Pixar Studios, which as you might expect to see in a presentation like this is a mix of hilarity and professionalism.

Other than that, there really isn’t much to go on with this. Cooley has been working with Pixar since he was an intern on the first Cars in 2003. And the only new character we really got to see was a doll named Lulu. But because the film comes out in Summer 2019, we didn’t get a whole lot right now. But you can expect that to change in the coming months.

Keep it here at Geeks Of Doom all weekend for our on-site coverage of Disney’s D23 Expo and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
