SYFY has landed a new multi-year non-exclusive deal for the off-network rights to all 140 episodes of the fan-favorite animated comedy Futurama.
Better yet, SYFY will be airing episodes right around bedtime for most people a couple of days a week. Continue reading for more details on the news and when episodes will begin airing.
SYFY will begin airing episodes of Futurama on Saturday, November 11th. They will then air every Monday and Tuesday evening from 8PM to 2AM EST. This is good news for the large group of fans who prefer falling asleep to episodes each night. There’s even a Subreddit dedicated to them, dubbed “Futurama Sleepers.” This nightly ritual took a significant blow when Netflix began removing seasons recently. This of course won’t replace watching whatever episodes you want, and commercials are never relaxing, but it’s something.
There’s even some good news for fans who miss Saturday morning cartoons. In addition to the bedtime episodes on Mondays and Tuesdays, a block of episodes will also be airing from 8 to 11AM EST on Saturdays. Fruit Loops and Futurama. What better way to forget about adult stuff.
Of the news, NBCU Cable entertainment networks president Chris McCumber said:
“We’re continuing to invest heavily to give our passionate fans the very best in genre programming, and I can think of no better addition to SYFY’s lineup than one of my personal favorites, Futurama.”
Sadly, it must be specified that this is just for the 140 existing episodes. There’s no indication that this could lead to SYFY becoming the latest savior to bring the show back from the dead once again.
For now, the only new Futurama content with the full voice cast we have is the mobile game Worlds of Tomorrow, and the recent radio episodes which skipped over that pesky (and expensive) step of animating everything.
