Book of Alien: Augmented Reality Survival Manual review

The Book Of Alien: Augmented Reality Survival Manual
Hardcover
By Owen Williams
Publisher: Harper Design | HarperCollins
Release date: November 14, 2017

Remember those video game guide books that were sold in the magazine section at local book stores? Imagine if someone took one of those and turned it into a gorgeous hardcover coffee-table book with high quality images throughout. That’s what it felt like reading The Book of Alien: Augmented Reality Survival Manual by Owen Williams. The book, from Harper Design, doubles as a beautiful assortment of photos and artwork from the Alien franchise as well as an interactive game you play on your phone.

The Alien AR App is available to download for free from the app store or iTunes. Along with The Book of Alien, it allows readers and players to get fully immersed in the world of Ridley Scott’s H.R. Giger-inspired nightmares. You can play seven different missions with objectives like landing a drop-ship simulator, conducting an alien autopsy, chestburster simulation, and encountering the queen herself. I tried it and it was easy to set up, fun, and like all things phone-related, slightly addictive. The augmented reality feature is a real trip.

For those not into games, the book itself features over 150 pages of cool stuff that is perfect for fans and sci-fi completists. Beautiful color photos that detail the odyssey from the its prequels (Prometheus and Covenant) to the original quadrilogy adorn the book. You get background on the Weyland-Yutani corporation, the crews, the weapons, and the different kinds of Xenomorph aliens.

The Book of Alien is a great addition if you’re looking for the next level of smartphone phone games, or if you’re a sci-fi movie buff.

An imaginative, full-color, fully authorized in-world guide to the creatures and scenes from all of the Alien movies, including breathtaking 3-D Augmented Reality animations.

A book like no other. An experience you’ll never forget.

The Alien movie franchise has been shocking audiences for more than thirty-five years, and the series now continues in eons to come””where this special interactive edition derives. Beamed back to us from the future reality witnessed in the movies, it is a handbook for new recruits of the U.S. Colonial Marines.

The Book of Alien includes everything you need to know to identify and combat the terrifying, extra-terrestrial species known as Xenomorphs. Protecting yourself and mankind against this significant and ever-growing threat is the goal. With this book, you will learn how to clearly identify the threat””and which weapons you will need to successfully neutralize it.

A practical combat guide The Book of Alien is both an old-world handbook””featuring paper pages, text, diagrams, and 100 color and black-and-white photographs””and a futurebook””with 3D interactive animations, sound and vision.
