Get Out

It’s nearly been one year since Jordan Peele‘s Get Out was released, and the film continues to make an impact. Considered one of the best films of the year, Get Out has been nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Actor. Quite an accomplishment for a first time director.

However, if you haven’t gotten a chance to see what everyone has been talking about, then you might want to take advantage of the free screenings that AMC will be having this coming Presidents’ Day. More on the announcement below.

Peele and Universal Pictures made a joint announcement about the free screenings on the film’s official Twitter account:

The free screenings will be held at 55 AMC theaters nationwide. Head on over to www.getoutoneyearlater.com to see if a free screening is being held at an AMC theater near you. It is very important to note that free tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and may only be picked up at the AMC box office that day. Each guest must present a valid ID to receive their ticket, with a limit of one free ticket for each ID presented, while supplies last. This offer is valid for the 7:00 p.m. showing of the film on February 19, only.

Universal Pictures President of Distribution Jim Orr said of the announcement:

“When Jordan approached us about a way to thank fans one year after the release of Get Out, we thought a Presidents’ Day screening during Black History Month would be a wonderful way to commemorate the film’s impact. The success of his stunning vision would not have been possible without the audience’s passion for both Get Out’s groundbreaking storytelling and its deft use of art as society’s mirror.”

While most awards-nominated films are released during the final three months of the year, Get Out is still getting some well-deserved recognition almost a year later. It weaves in horror and dramatic elements into a film about real world issues like racism. The result is that we get something that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. And if you want to find more art like the header image above, be sure to check out some of the fine pieces inspired by the film over at Now You’re In The Sunken Place.

And be sure to see if Get Out can make a clean sweep at the Academy Awards when it airs on March 5, 2018, on ABC.
