When you think of the James Bond films or really any of Ian Fleming’s 007 tales, you think of cool cars, quirky bad guys, and amazing gadgets. But James Bond: M, a new one-shot comic from Dynamite Entertainment, approaches things a little differently. This time it is all about the man behind the agent.
M was always Bond’s MI6 director, more of a title than a person. Never having really paid much attention to the person assigning missions to the star of the books and films, I am ecstatic that I took the time to read this one-shot story. What does it take to lead this dangerous group of people? An even more calculating and menacing person.
We all have history and it affects us in ways we might not even notice. But if someone tried to use it against us, what would we do, I ponder? I doubt we would be as ingenious as M. But I won’t spoil the story. Suffice to say that one does not become a spy master by being oblivious.
With the help of the ever-present Moneypenny, our shadow operator turned protagonist tries to turn the tables in this riveting tale about perception and personal history. This is an easy choice for 007 fans the world over, you need this story in your life. Because as much of a bad ass as Bond is, M takes a back seat to no one.
James Bond’s superior, code-named M, scrambles MI6’s secret agents across the globe. Sometimes, he knowingly sends them to their deaths, for the greater good. But a traumatic event from M’s early days in the field returns to haunt him, forcing M to return to the scene of a crime… HIS crime. An exhilarating spy standalone from superstar DECLAN SHALVEY (Deadpool Vs. Old Man Logan, Savage Town) and PJ HOLDEN (2000 AD, Judge Dredd).
