Marvel Studios Has No Plans To Attend Hall H At San Diego Comic-Con This Year

10 Years Of Marvel Studios

For almost 10 years, Marvel Studios has had a panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con. Many who attend the show-stopping panel would line up at least a day in advance to be sure to see whatever footage the studio may have. However, things will change. That’s because the studio has no plans to book the hall this year, which would leave room for other studios to up their own panels or just give attendees more time to enjoy the Comic-Con floor. More on this story here below.

Collider broke the news earlier today. In an interview with the site, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that this year would be an off year for the studio:

“We’re not going to Hall H this year. It will be an off year”¦ which is what we did after Avengers 1 and what we’ve done every few years. There will be a tenth-anniversary presence at Comic-Con but [no Hall H panel.]”

As Feige stated, this wouldn’t be the first time that the studio has done this. Even during the years that D23 Expo was held, Marvel did show up to SDCC. And there were times where they didn’t. However, if you are looking forward to something to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the studio, then you might want to check it out. Just don’t hold your breath for any new footage from Avengers 4 or Captain Marvel.

Considering how small of a slate the studio has after Avengers 4, it doesn’t come as a surprise that they would be taking an off year this year. We know that Marvel has Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. However, Black Panther and Doctor Strange sequels are all still on hold. And we still don’t know if Ant-Man and The Wasp and Captain Marvel will be successful enough to warrant sequels – though in most cases they do.

That being said, it’s going to be a nice change of pace for SDCC this year, though I suspect that convention attendees will probably wait in line for WB and DC – their panels are usually just as popular.

Feige added:

“[We’re] not going to announce any post-Avengers 4 movies until hopefully after Avengers 4, which is another reason we’re not going to Comic-Con.”

Another thing is that maybe Marvel Studios has outgrown SDCC. Again, fans staying overnight on a hard concrete surface outside the convention center just for a few seconds of footage only to see the film a mere six months after simply isn’t worth the effort or the back pain anymore. Plus, Marvel could simply just showcase their titles at the D23 Expo, a Disney fan event that is held every two years.
